In to screen the (dis)appearing ceiling, 2010, steam from the Yale Central Power Plant in New Haven, CT becomes barely discernible from the overcast sky. The gas/co-generational power plant emits an almost invisible plume of steam into the visibly cloudy sky. This nearly invisible plume appears the most rapid movement in an otherwise still image. The overcast sky becomes a screen for the disappearing plume of steam. The disappearance of the plume of steam foregrounds the screen of the sky as a filter. The sky becomes a filter of a (dis)appearing ceiling. |
